I am blessed.

My daughter has, for the last three years, made me a daily calendar. A little notebook where she’s written a quick thought for me on every page. One for every day that she’s away for a college term. So that, perhaps, I’ll miss her less.

Before she left for college, she used to leave me little notes – some loving, some hilarious, some both – in my office. This is to take their place. So that, perhaps, I’ll miss her less.

Today’s reading (that I’m actually rereading from last term) says it all.

“The ship of my life may not be sailing on calm or amicable seas. The challenging days of my existence may or may not be bright and promising. Stormy or sunny days, glorious or lonely nights, I maintain an attitude of gratitude. If I insist on being pessimistic, there is always tomorrow. Today I am blessed.” Maya Angelou, “Letter To My Daughter”

Today I am blessed.
