I’m deep in my yoga practice (yes, I love and live by – and for – my yoga practice!). The music is playing. I’m finding my pose.
Then I hear these words (from the music, not the universe directly).
You’re beautiful just as you are.
So many of us learned that this isn’t true. So many of us internalized that this isn’t true in order to survive. So many of us tell ourselves the opposite. Every. Single. Day.
That s—t has to stop!
Sure, there are ways each of us could be better, whatever that means. Sure, there are things about us that we (and maybe others) wish were different. Sure, there is always more to learn and more ways to evolve.
But we are damn beautiful, just as we are.
Imperfections. Scars. Challenges. All.
The world changes when we start to believe this. It changes even more when we start to know and live this. We have more compassion for ourselves…and mysteriously also for others. We have peace and calm in our minds, hearts, souls, and bodies. We have more joy.
As a client said to me years ago, it’s the simple stuff, but it’s not the easy stuff. Rewiring these tapes – these lies – in our heads takes work. A lot of work, for me at least.
But it is possible. And it is glorious.
It’s a combination of the third and fourth truths of my FLYT™️ path to transformational life and leadership – calling out the Lies in your head and realizing You are perfect, just as you are (even though there is also really no such thing as perfection).
For me it’s telling myself I love myself – I adore myself. Every. Single. Day. It’s letting myself make mistakes – sometimes many mistakes – and just saying, “Oops!” and trying again. It’s doing HARD trauma and EMDR therapy and intense body work and intentionally pointing my brain to the good, the joy, the beauty, the yellow birds. (By the way, three showed up already this morning, including one when I specifically asked for it!)
It’s saying it over and over and over and over to myself until I begin to believe it. It’s surrounding myself with people who say it to me, because, why not!??!
It’s allowing and breathing and simply, simply being.
You are beautiful just the way you are.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, and please share this post with others if it resonates with you. Let’s start a movement of loving ourselves First Most and Always!
