“You can start your day over at any time,” I used to tell my older child when they were little.

They being them, they would pretend to get out of bed, get dressed, have breakfast, brush their teeth, and start their day.

Not exactly what I meant, but it worked.

Of course it was my yoga instructor who reminded me of this recently, as we held a tough position during class.

It’s a truth I think I unconsciously practice but consciously have forgotten. I promised myself that it would be a more conscious thought, when helpful.

If I’ve had a hard day so far. If it’s a tough body and brain day, and I am depleted. If I’ve done something I wish I hadn’t done or not done something I wish I had. All of these are opportunities for me to put my hand on my heart, remind myself how much I love myself #FirstMostAlways, and give myself a brand new start.

Sometimes it’s even another brand new start.

But it’s my day, and I can do that.

When I restart my day, I can shift my brain more easily to thoughts and beliefs that serve me. That help me feel and be better. When I restart my day, I can up and reup and re-reup my self-compassion and care. When I restart my day, I can let go of my frustration at something or someone (when letting go of it is my next best choice) and find more peace and ease in my heart.

I might, like my kid, act out getting out of bed and brushing my teeth. Damn, but if that helps me, I will. Or I might just close my eyes, breathe deep into my body and soul, and know that now is the next moment and a new moment and it’s all I have.

Either way – or any other way – I’ll be restarting my day often.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, and please share this post with others if it resonates with you. Let’s start a movement of loving ourselves First Most Always!
